Chris is a Senior Tax Manager specializing in providing insightful tax strategies and planning opportunities for closely held businesses and individuals. He focuses particularly on high-net-worth individuals and executives, helping them navigate complex tax matters with expertise.

A graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), Chris holds both a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a Master of Accountancy. Before joining AJC in 2023, he gained valuable experience at two larger regional firms in Virginia, honing his skills in tax advisory and financial planning.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys playing golf but most of all, spending time with his wife and their two Labrador Retrievers. He and his wife often embark on day trips to Virginia’s wineries or explore the many historical sites throughout the Commonwealth.

David’s career journey began in retail in Roanoke, where he discovered a passion for tax preparation after taking an H&R Block tax course. This sparked a career shift that ultimately led him to join AJC in 1989 after relocating to Richmond. Today, David plays a key role in organizing and preparing tax data for individuals and business clients, ensuring accurate and timely tax returns. His work with small businesses is especially rewarding, as he takes pride in offering them peace of mind with their taxes, allowing them to focus on growing and thriving.

A history major from Virginia Tech, David is a lifelong avid reader, with John Grisham and Linwood Barclay among his favorite authors. His curiosity extends beyond books—he’s long been captivated by ancient history, particularly the pyramids and the Sphinx. A few years ago, David and his wife fulfilled a dream by visiting Egypt, an experience he describes as nothing short of “mind-blowing.” This sense of wonder and exploration continues to shape both his personal and professional life.

Sharon is a Director in AJC’s Tax Department, where she provides tax compliance and advisory services to individuals and businesses across various industries. In addition to her client work, Sharon helps supervise the department’s staff and plays an integral role in training, sharing her extensive expertise. She joined AJC in 2003 after gaining valuable experience with a national CPA firm and in private industry. Initially joining the firm on a seasonal basis during tax time, Sharon transitioned into her current full-time role after a few years.

Many of Sharon’s clients are middle-market, family-owned businesses, where tax issues are often deeply personal. She finds great satisfaction in supporting her clients’ success, acting not just as a tax professional, but as a trusted business advisor who is always accessible. Sharon holds a degree in accounting from the University of Richmond.

Outside of work, Sharon is a proud grandmother who enjoys spending time with her “grands” at the Richmond Metro Zoo, at the pool, or simply enjoying each other’s company. She is also actively involved in her church and treasures the memories created during family vacations at Emerald Isle, North Carolina.

Tim is a Senior Assurance Manager at AJC, where he leads and manages a range of assurance engagements, including compilations, reviews, and audits, for clients across various industries such as electric cooperatives, construction contractors, and Common-Interest Realty Associations (CIRAs). Tim joined AJC in 2008, following an internship with the firm after earning his degree in accounting from Christopher Newport University. He furthered his education with a Master of Accountancy from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Tim particularly enjoys two key aspects of his role: providing clients with valuable insights into complex accounting issues and mentoring newer staff members to support their professional development. His leadership and guidance are integral to the growth of both client relationships and the AJC team. Outside of work, Tim dedicates much of his time to his family and coaching youth athletics in the local community, where he has the opportunity to positively impact the lives of young athletes.

Larry is the Director of Tax Resolution at AJC, a position he has held since joining the firm in 2016. In this role, he helps clients navigate and resolve issues with the IRS and other tax authorities by reviewing the notices they receive and working to find satisfactory solutions. With 36 years of experience at the IRS, Larry has become fluent in “bureaucrat speak,” which allows him to quickly put clients at ease and guide them through the complexities of the IRS system.

A graduate of Roanoke College with a degree in business administration, Larry initially planned a career in pharmacy but discovered his passion for numbers and finance after taking a “Principles of Accounting” class. Outside of work, Larry enjoys spending time with his grandchildren and is a dedicated Virginia Tech football season ticket holder, regularly attending games to support his team.

Edy joined AJC in 2002 and currently serves as a Senior Manager, overseeing the firm’s Professional Services Division handling bookkeeping for tax and audit clients, in addition to providing tax and business consulting services. Before joining AJC, Edy ran her own bookkeeping business.

Although she originally earned a degree in commercial art from Florida State University, Edy discovered her aptitude for numbers while working at Disney World. A friend introduced her to bookkeeping, and she quickly realized that it was a natural fit. After moving to Richmond, she pursued a degree in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University, solidifying her career in the field.

Edy finds great satisfaction in solving problems for her clients, knowing that her work not only alleviates their stress but also enhances their ability to manage and grow their businesses. Outside of work, Edy enjoys adding a personal touch to her office by decorating her desk with fresh flowers from her garden every Monday. She also loves reading, bike riding, camping, and traveling, with memorable trips to destinations like Singapore and China among her adventures.

Tom joined AJC in 2009 and is a CPA specializing in tax preparation and audit reviews for Homeowners Associations (HOAs). He finds great fulfillment in assisting clients with their tax concerns, offering practical solutions to improve their processes and ease their minds. Tom holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Originally from Pittsburgh, Tom is a passionate fan of the Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins. Outside of work, he’s an avid reader and is rekindling his love for ballroom dancing, a passion he once competed in. He particularly enjoys the smooth styles, including the waltz, foxtrot, and tango, and is excited to get back into the rhythm of it.

Tiffany is a Senior Manager on the Assurance Team at AJC, where she specializes in providing business advisory services, particularly in areas like acquisitions, dispositions, and due diligence. She finds great satisfaction in helping clients navigate complex transactions and ensuring smooth outcomes.

Tiffany began her career in public accounting before transitioning to industry, where she spent 17 years with a large Richmond-based food manufacturing company. In 2018, she took the leap into entrepreneurship, starting her own business offering fractional accounting and CFO services to small businesses and start-ups. Tiffany earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Virginia Commonwealth University, though her journey began at East Carolina University with plans to major in journalism. After transferring to VCU and taking some accounting classes, she discovered a new career path that suited her strengths.

Outside of work, Tiffany enjoys spending time with family and friends, engaging in outdoor activities, focusing on wellness and fitness, and indulging her passion for cooking and entertaining.

Rob joined AJC in 2022 as a Senior Manager in the Tax Department, where he oversees tax returns and tax planning for a primarily small business and individual client base. He finds great personal satisfaction in collaborating with clients to develop tax strategies that not only reduce their stress but also help them save money. His ability to suggest effective solutions is especially rewarding, as it directly impacts his clients’ financial well-being.

Rob’s interest in accounting was inspired by his father, an accountant who encouraged him to explore the field. He enrolled in accounting courses at Le Moyne College in Syracuse, and by his junior year, he was hooked. He earned his degree in accounting, setting the foundation for his career.

Outside of work, Rob is an avid triathlete, having competed in numerous events since his first race in 2016. He spends much of his free time training for upcoming competitions. Rob also enjoys taking beach vacations with his family, where he can unwind and enjoy quality time together.

Ross is a Senior Tax Manager at AJC, where he specializes in working with closely held businesses to develop tax strategies and recommend solutions aimed at minimizing tax liabilities. He collaborates with clients across various industries, with a particular focus on real estate, investment, and construction sectors.

Ross, a graduate of Longwood University, earned his degree in accounting while also competing as a member of the golf team. Inspired by his mother, a CPA, he followed her lead and pursued a career in accounting. His academic success, athletic background, and strong family influence have shaped his commitment to the profession. After gaining valuable experience at a small accounting firm, Ross joined AJC in 2019, where he has continued to build on his expertise and dedication to his work.

Outside of work, Ross enjoys playing golf and cherishes time spent with his family. He and his wife love to travel, with some of their favorite getaway destinations being Nashville, New York City, and Charleston.

As a Senior Assurance Manager at Adams, Jenkins & Cheatham PC, Derry leads audit, review, and compilation engagements with a specialized focus on clients in the electric cooperative, construction, and homeowner association (HOA) industries. In addition to his client-facing responsibilities, Derry plays an instrumental role in the professional development of junior team members. He actively trains and mentors new associates, fostering technical growth and instilling best practices that enhance team performance and cohesion.

Derry has also cultivated niche expertise in conducting agreed-upon procedures related to the bank examination process. His in-depth understanding of regulatory expectations makes him a trusted advisor to both internal teams and clients navigating complex financial and compliance requirements.

Derry joined AJC in 2008 shortly after earning a double major in Accounting and Finance from Radford University. Outside of work, he enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two children. Together, they seek out outdoor adventures, whether playing sports, heading to the beach, or visiting Wintergreen. Derry and his wife also enjoy relaxing getaways to local breweries and wineries, as well as frequent trips to Miami and Fort Lauderdale.

Michelle is a Senior Tax Manager at AJC, specializing in the preparation of individual, trust, estate, and gift tax returns. She also provides valuable assistance to estate executors and administrators, guiding them through probate procedures and the estate settlement process. Michelle finds great fulfillment in helping fiduciaries manage assets, protect beneficiaries, and alleviate the family’s burden during challenging times.

With over 30 years of experience in the accounting field, Michelle has spent half of her career focused on estate and trust matters. She graduated from Longwood University with concentrations in accounting and management, choosing to pursue accounting because of her passion for problem-solving and analytical challenges.

A native of Mecklenburg County, Virginia, Michelle enjoys running, spending time at the beach, and boating and fishing on the James River with her family. These activities provide her with the perfect balance of relaxation and connection to nature.

Carl is a Director at AJC, where he plays a critical role in reviewing tax returns before they are sent to clients and filed with the IRS. He also manages the staff’s workload to ensure that client projects are handled efficiently. With support from the firm’s leadership, Carl researched the procedures for being an executor/administrator of an estate, leading to the development of a new specialty area at AJC. He believes in maintaining year-round communication with his clients, not just during tax season, allowing him and the AJC team to proactively address any potential issues before they arise.

With over 40 years of experience in the accounting field, Carl spent 26 years running his own CPA business before it was acquired by AJC in 2015. Originally from New York City, Carl began his college studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice before transferring to Virginia Commonwealth University, where a chance accounting course sparked his interest in the field. After excelling in the subject, he decided to pursue a career in accounting, earning his degree in the process.

A lifelong Yankees fan, Carl is also honing his carpentry skills in his spare time. He has tackled several DIY projects, including building a chicken coop and creating a paver walkway in front of his home. His projects are often accompanied by some sweat equity from his family, including his son Miles, who also works at AJC.

Chris is a Senior Assurance Manager at AJC, bringing over 12 years of experience in audit, review, and compilation engagements. His expertise spans a broad range of industries, including electric utilities, workers’ compensation insurers, property and casualty insurers, and common interest realty associations, among others. In addition to leading assurance engagements, Chris specializes in providing consulting services to various insurance companies throughout the year. These services include handling monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting requirements, calculating and allocating member dividends, managing loss portfolio transfers, and supporting mergers and acquisitions.

Chris earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with dual concentrations in Accounting and Finance from Longwood University. After completing a two-year internship, he joined AJC full-time in 2010.

Outside of work, Chris enjoys spending time with his family, especially coaching his son’s football and basketball teams. The family also loves spending time on the water, particularly in the Outer Banks, where they named their Sheepadoodle “Bodie” in honor of the Bodie Island Lighthouse.
